Felix W. Zulauf is the owner of Zulauf Asset Management AG, Zug, Switzerland. Zulauf previously worked for UBS in Zurich in various positions, including Fund Manager, Global Investment Strategist and Head of Institutional Portfolio. He is often abroad at prestigious stock exchange firms in New York and Paris, where he has deepened his knowledge of global financial markets. in 1990, he founded Zulauf Asset Management AG to implement an investment philosophy free from conventional institutional constraints. He is married and is the father of two adult children.

Theme 2 | Gregor Hochreiter

Fundamentals of the Austrian School of Economics – Monetary and Economic Theory

Gregor Hochreiter is the Founder and Board member of the Institute for Value Management.  The Institute is dedicated to research and teaching a realistic economy in the tradition of the Austrian School of Economics and others.

Hochreiter is currently a lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and the University of Liechtenstein. He is the author of Langfristig Werte sichern, co-author of Der Anti-Steingart and The Regulation Race.

Upon completion of his studies in economics at the University of Vienna and the University of Aalborg (Denmark) he worked for the CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies), a Brussels-based think tank.

Ralf Flierl is the Founder and CEO of Munich-based-company Smart Investor Media GmbH, as well as Chief Editor of the magazine Smart Investor. He is also responsible for the weekly stock market letter Smart Investor Weekly. Smart Investor magazine provides stock exchange  know-how and is a competent source of advice for investment decisions. Prior to his current position, Flierl was security paper analyst at FINANZWOCHE in Pullach near Munich, and head of research at GoingPublic Media AG in Wolfratshausen.

Theme 4 | Barbara Kolm

What the Concepts of Austrians Bring in the Current Crisis

Dr. Barbara Kolm is the General Secretary of the Friedrich August von Hayek Institute in Vienna, which offers market-based solutions in the areas of education, health, protection of labor, business location and poverty reduction. The organization also promotes the teachings of the Austrian School of Economics. Dr. Kolm is also Founder of the Austrian Economics Center, dedicated to research and policy advice in the area of individual social responsibility in combination with economic issues. She is a Member of the Mont Pélerin society and President of the European Coalition for economic growth. She studied business administration at the University of Innsbruck and UCLA.

He is a leading voice for the topic of “How we involuntarily finance criminals, mafiosi, smugglers, and terrorists.” Dr. Burger-Scheidlin is a member of the ICC anti-corruption Commission, Paris, is a partner in Commercial Crime Services, London, a lecturer on the prevention of economic crime, Danube University Krems, MCI Innsbruck. For 35 years Dr. Burger-Scheidlin has consulted companies in Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Australia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, and  Malaysia. He has conducted advisory activities in 85 countries and is the co-author of numerous books.

Notes on the decade of EMU and its polluters.

Markus C. Kerber is a Professor of Public Finance and Economic Policy at the Technical University of Berlin. Previously he was guest professor for defence economics at the I.E.P., Paris. From 1991 to 2001, he was guest lecturer at the Academy of the German Armed Forces. In 1991/92, Kerber was a lawyer and management consultant in Berlin, Paris and London. He has held executive positions for investment banks in London and Paris, and has published numerous treatises on public finance, corporate finance and law, antitrust law and European law.

Manfred Kastner is Chairman of the Management Board of C.A.T. Oil AG, a leading oil and gas service company in Russia, listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Kastner completed his studies at the University of Economics in Vienna, with a focus on capital markets, economics and languages. He is the Founder and President of the Board of the Vision Microfinance Fund, a fund with more than 100 million EUR microcredits worldwide.

Kastner is a founding partner of numerous companies, primarily Internet ventures.

Johannes Thun-Hohenstein has, since 2002, been an independent consultant in the media field. He leads decision makers as a trainer and coach to new services. His clients include media and communications companies in Austria, Germany, UK and Ireland. He has extensive media experience through his time as Managing Director of a business channel, founder of Radio Energy in Vienna, Managing Director of a film distribution company, the acquisition of ATV in Austria by Dr. Kloiber, and the start of TV2 in Hungary. Thun-Hohenstein is the founder of the Internet Advertising Bureau, and until 1995 he was leader of the Management Club in Vienna. Before that he worked for the Federal Minister for Science and Research Dr. Erhard Busek.

Philipp Vorndran has strengthened the investment team of Raft, Creek & Stork as a Capital Market Strategist since 2009. Since 2005 he has also been a supervisory board member for Flossbach & von Storch AG. From 1997 to 2008, Vorndran was at Credit Suisse Group serving in various functions. He was Chief Strategist for Global Asset Management and also CEO from 2004 to 2006, at Credit Suisse Asset Management GmbH in Germany. He began his career at Bank Julius Bär in Frankfurt and Zurich, serving as manager from 1992 to 1996.

Gold’s Price will Rise Because Gold is Money

Though its monetary features have often been overlooked in recent decades, gold has not lost the unique and inimitable attributes that make it money. Ongoing problems with national currencies are leading to a greater reliance on gold worldwide, with the inevitable result that gold will soon return to its traditional and rightful role as international money.

James Turk is the founder of precious metal trading platform GoldMoney, and Chairman of the  GoldMoney Foundation. Turk began his career after completing his studies in international economics in 1969 at the Chase Manhattan Bank, and soon moved into the precious metals industry. He was manager of the raw material Department of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority from 1983 to 1987. He is the author of two books, as well as various monographs and articles about money and banking. He is also co-author of the book The Coming Collapse of the Dollar, which has been updated in a newly published paperback version and is now entitled The Collapse of the Dollar.

The Power of Good Ideas

Important contributions and findings of the Austrian School of Economics.

Dr. Thorsten Polleit has served as Chief German Economist at Barclays Capital since October 2000. Previously Dr. Polleit worked for for ABN AMRO in Frankfurt, London and Amsterdam, and was Chief German Economist for ABN AMRO Germany AG. He is a member of the Friedrich August von Hayek Organization, and the Research Network on Money in the Economy (ROME). His main interests lie in the areas of monetary economics, monetary theory and policy, and capital market theory. In the year 2000 he founded the ECB Observer, an independent group observing European Central Bank. In 2003, he was recognized as a professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.

Since summer 2012 Nikolaus Kimla and his family has been living in Los Angeles. He is the author of the books Die IT-Revolution, as well as Salespeople Embracing it All.
