Since April 2006 Bastlein has been Chairman of the Board of Constantia packaging GmbH. After training in banking and studying economics in Germany and California, he began his career at a midsize manufacturing plant. In 1994 he moved to Hochtief AG. In a managerial position there he was responsible for the internationalisation of the group. After serving as Chief Financial Officer of an international retail business, in 2004 he became Chief Financial Officer for VA Technology AG. Bastlein is the chairman and a member of various supervisory boards, as well as a member of the Federal Executive of the Industrial Association of Austria.
